Advertiser Verification for Financial Services Comes to Türkiye
Google Ads is taking another step to protect users against financial fraud. To increase trust in advertising and provide a safer online experience, Google is extending its financial services advertiser verification program to Türkiye.
A Stronger Response to Fraud
Users expect to be safe when searching for information on Google. That makes trustworthy, honest advertising essential. An update to Google's financial products and services policies requires financial services advertisers to undergo a stricter verification process. The aim is to strengthen the advertising network's protection against financial fraud.
The Verification Process in Türkiye
Organizations advertising financial services in Türkiye will need to document that they are authorized by the relevant public authorities to provide those services. Advertisers will also need to complete Google's advertiser verification program. Pre-approval has begun for active financial services advertisers, and the policy is expected to take effect in November 2023.
Financial Services Verification: The UK Experience
The program was first introduced in the United Kingdom in September 2021. Financial services advertisers in the UK must show that they are authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority or qualify for one of the exemptions listed on the UK financial services verification page. Since the policy came into effect, there has been a substantial decline in ads reported on suspicion of promoting financial fraud. That result demonstrated the program's effectiveness and supported its expansion to other countries.
A Commitment to the Future
Google will continue working with regulators and authorities to keep advertising trustworthy and protect users. It plans to extend these verification requirements to further countries and regions in the coming months.
The policy is part of efforts to create a safe, healthy and sustainable advertising ecosystem. Preventing deceptive practices such as phishing and clickbait, and imposing strict rules on advertisers marketing financial products, are among the steps toward that goal. Google's teams enforce these policies carefully, using both machine learning and human review to block fraudulent ads. In 2022, 198 million ads were blocked for violating financial services policies alone.
Google remains committed to combating scammers' evolving tactics. By working with industry and public authorities, it will continue taking the steps needed to make the advertising ecosystem safer.
